Namugong, Poblacion- Mr. Richard Gadit, Provincial Coordinator Agro-Biodiverisy Project UN Food and Agriculture Organization – Project Management Coordinating Unit led the turn-over of the project “Dynamic Conservation and Sustainable Use of Agrobiodiversity in Traditional Agro-Ecosystem of the Philippines” which was funded by Global Environment Facility (GEF) and co-implemented by the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR) and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nation (UNFAO) to the Local Government Unit of Hungduan.
Ms. Marijun M. Pinyuhan, Community Facilitator for the Municipality presented the accomplishments of the project in Hungduan which was implemented in 2018. The 2-year project was meant to end by 2020 but was extended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Participants for the said project meeting and turn-over were the Technical Working Group (TWG) on the Locally Important Agricultural Heritage System (LIAHS) composed of the Municipal Planning and Development Office (MPDO), Municipal Budget Office (MBO), Tourism Section, and Environment Section of the Office of the Municipal Mayor, President of the Liga ng Barangay, Indigenous Peoples’ Mandatory Representative (IPMR) of the 9 barangays and chaired by the Municipal Agriculturist. The Chair of the Sangguniang Bayan Committee on Agriculture and the Municipal Agricultural and Fishery Council (MAFC) were in attendance, too.
The project objective is to enhance, expand and sustain the dynamic conservation practices that sustain globally significant agro-biodiversity in traditional ecosystems of the Philippines. The project will consist of three interlinked and mutually reinforcing components: (1) Mainstreaming agrobiodiversity considerations into policy and legal frameworks, development strategies, and institutional structures (2) Pilot activities to enhance and expand dynamic conservation practices for agro-biodiversity in three pilot communities (3) Dissemination of information, awareness raising, and preparations for scaling up, monitoring, and evaluation. #
